For those of you who have heard previous Jungle Rot albums, this latest release will come of no surprise to you on the whole! For those of you who have not, Jungle Rot describe themselves as being ’Old School Death Metal’ and that is pretty much what you get! Jungle Rot has the same work ethic as Bolt Thrower, if you have a formula stick to it.
That being said they have a very distinctive sound, the guitars have a very heavy but crunchy tone to them and it’s full of chugging and memorable riffs. The guitar tone on this album is not far removed the stuff that Konkhra released in the 90s and has a punchy tone which isn’t over produced which suits the style perfectly
One thing that is really enjoyable about What Horrors Await is the pace really picks up at times notably during Nerve Gas and the Destruction cover which works very well indeed especially for a Death Metal band like this venturing into Thrash territory!
It is definitely an album that improves listen upon listen and well worth checking out for those of you who prefer proper in your face crunching riffs with no messing about!
