From the former Hanoi rocks frontman Michael Monroe, Another Night in the Sun is the recently released live album, recorded at the Tavastia Club in Helsinki. Normally you'd expect anarchy and dysfuntion to be reserved for the punk genre but this iconic, rock n' roll singer has managed to blend hard rock with a touch of punk and glam on this show, which is probably why Lemmy's got them backing Motörhead on their current 35th Anniversary tour.
For anyone hoping for some Hanoi action he slips in a few nostalgic, and brilliantly performed, classics like Malibu Beach Nightmare and Back to Mystery City, as well as a selection of suitably chosen covers, including Warrant's Dead, Jail or Rock n' Roll, and plenty from Monroe's solo career. With a new studio album on the way they also threw in a couple of unreleased tracks that get you wishing you had actually been there!
The show gets a lot more into it's rock n' roll heritage about half way through, most likely propelled by the Hanoi tracks and Monroe's band, featuring Wildhearts' Ginger and New York Doll's Steve Conte on guitars, one of the finest moments being an impromptu rendition of Golden Earring's Radar Love that slid into Baby Please Don't Go. For the most part, think youthful anarchy with a raw, enthusiastic guitar duo and punky vocals, and that's the sort of show you would expect from this live album.
With an audience made up of mainly fan club members and street teams it's definitely a record for a fan collection and is a great stepping stone to the next album (due for release in early 2011.)
