An eerie intro of reversed voices, and a woman's heavy breathing, leads into a phenomenal title track on Oliver Weers' Evil's Back; the German / English singer is clearly talented in the song writing department and has finely picked the perfect musicians to perform his music and propel it into a record that should potentially be one of the biggest rock and metal releases of 2011.
Performances on the X Factor and Eurovision have steered him into his famed 'Man With The Voice' role in Denmark and it's a pretty obvious title judging on this second album. Evil's Back is a blend of heavy metal and plenty of Weers' melodic rock vocals; it's hard to pick a stand out track when they're all so good, but the heavier material is still where he's most at home and where his music is at its most impressive. Ones to look out for, aside from the title track, are Much Too Much, All My Life and Demolition Man for some striking, guitar driven, rock tunes and Devil's Chain for an injection of groove into hard rock.
Evil's Back is a hard rock album with a passion for classic rock, the likes of Dio and Rainbow, as well as some contemporary metal that benefits from the input of female vocalist Rebecca Armstrong (of Stella Black Rose). Beautiful Rain is the, typically acoustic, ballad of the album whilst Rainbow Star is a fittingly emotional tribute to one of Oliver's greatest inspirations, Ronnie James Dio.
