State of Rock are a new band formed by previous members of Frontline and Shy who were both melodic rock bands who had been doing the rounds for quite a while.

The style of the previously mentioned bands is more or less what is on offer with A Point of Destiny, very melodic and especially vocal based with some classic rock sounding guitars keeping it all together. Tony Mills on vocals has a very powerful voice, which tends to stick towards the higher end of the scale!

On the whole, everything sounds quite ‘nice’ and the lyrics are very emotionally based but thankfully not too much on the cheesey side! The bizarre highlight of the album has to be the very unexpected announcement of the ‘guitar solo’ in the title track, just a bit of fun thrown in to the mix!

There is obviously still quite a market for this style of music, it must be said that Germany is the home of nearly all the members (aside from Tony Mills who is from Birmingham) and what better place to be based for a band delivering this style of music where it is so popular. It’s good to see that there are musicians who will go the distance and keep producing the music they love and providing listeners with the style of music they want to hear.
