Leeds-based dirty rockers The Glitterati have finally come up with their second studio album, produced and mixed by Matt Hyde (Slipknot, Bullet For My Valentine, Gallows). Hyped somewhat in their earlier incarnation, the band are living up to the high expectations with this offering of sleazy commercial rock.
Opening track Right from the Start sets a frantic pace with a highly charged race through pauseless lyrics, and catchy sing-a-long chorus.
The Guns n' Roses sounding guitars from John Emsley mix with catchy 80’s lighter pop-rock hooks and choruses, and a smattering of sleazy vocals with attitude from frontman Paul Gautrey, such as in F***s Me Up.
Fight Fight Fight
starts like a classic Three Colours Red commercial punk anthem, again adds Slash style guitars and a classic rock vocal and turns into a stomping angsty sing-along which will have fans punching the air and singing along whilst pogo-ing frantically at gigs.
Your Idea reminds me of a slight Nirvana / Foo Fighters sound, and Shanty sees a softer side of The Glitterati with a slower ballad, demonstrating their song-writing ability well. They make it all sound so effortless, but many bands would kill to write this album; excellent compositions and catchy hooks.
The band themselves claim that the album is full of swagger and attitude and more importantly, full of great songs. They’re not wrong. As anyone from Yorkshire knows, only good things come out of Leeds, and The Glitterati are no exception to the rule. If you like your catchy dirty sleaze punk rock like Disarm or the Sex Slaves, you’ll find something on this album to rock out to.
