The Rotted // Review
|
CD: Get Dead or Die Trying Released: 30 June 2008 |
When Gorerotted decided it was time to hang up the old name as an ode to the previous members and previous recordings they chose to change their name to The Rotted and continue on with the current line up.
So after a long wait from the English Cannibal Corpse we finally receive Get Dead or Die Trying. The title itself continues the trend of tongue in cheek humour, following on from Mutilated in Minutes and Only Tools and Corpses, however the music has taken a slight change of direction.
Gone are the catchy yet disturbing sing-a-long songs like F*ck Your Ass With Broken Glass, Gagged Shagged Bodybagged and Limb by Limb. Istead things are much heavier, much more intense and not quite a silly.
Nothin’ but a Nosebleed is a no nonsense, ear drum ravaging, death metal opus, which isn’t for the light hearted. The Howling and Kissing You With My Fists continue the thundering aggression whereas Angel of Meth is just as catchy as Slayer’s Angel of Death, just lyrically it’s about a completely different scenario.
A Brief Moment of Regre is the song that’s made it on the TopShop playlist, pretty unlikely for a death metal outfit. However, it’s not an ear drum annihilator, it’s a brief stripped down melodic interlude used purely to make The Body Tree feel ten times heavier. It’s Like There’s A Party in my Mouth (and Everyone’s Being Sick) and Fear and Loathing in Old London Town are flashbacks to the older Gorerotted we all know and love, whereas 28 Days Later is a long atmospheric piece which certainly comes as a surprise.
Though they may have changed their name and some things about their sound are a bit different, they are still the best death metal band from the UK hands down. Long live The Rotted!
