Verjnuarmu // Review

CD: Ruatokansan Uamunkoetto Released: 23 June 2008 |
Finnish outfit Verjnuarmu are self proclaimed savo metal, a variation of melodic death metal. Imagine At the Gates meets Soilwork meets Teräsbetoni and you're about there.
With a name like Verjnuarmu, it doesn’t come as a surprise that the opening track Tulesta Pimmeyvven sounds like Belphegor only if they sang entirely in Finnish!
With tracks like Kuu Paestaa, Kuollu Ajjaa and Huaskalinnut the band go down a more melodic, almost hard rock road but in complete opposition, Mustan Virran Silta and Luita ja Hampaeta are more in line with Arch Enemy and Dark Tranquility , which shows both sides to this band.
Kuhtumattomat Vieraat and Räähähenki have to be the highlights for me, as they combine the melodic Finnish vocals perfectly with the heavy death metal riffs, which I suppose can only be described as savo metal. What does savo metal sound like? I hear you asking; well you’ll just have to give Verjnuarmu a listen to find out just how awesome it is.
